Our History

The League of Women Voters has its roots in the woman suffrage movement. The fight for voting rights, women's rights, and the essential need of our democracy for an informed and involved voting public did not end with the passage of the 19th amendment, but ultimately was validated and energized by the efforts and hard-won success of the brave suffragists who paved the way to our ongoing efforts to form a more perfect union. The founding of the League of Women Voters was a testament to the committment of these early activists to "Make Democracy Work."
